Barry A. Schneider, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychology in Nova Southeastern University's College of Psychology. He received his B.A. degree from UCLA, and completed his graduate education at Columbia University where he earned two Master's degrees and the Doctor of Philosophy. Pre and post-graduate clinical training were obtained at New York University School of Medicine-Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital.
Dr. Schneider became a member of the New York University Medical School faculty and served as staff psychologist at the hospital. When he first came to Florida, he was the Director of the Coconut Grove Mental Health Clinic. He then served as a forensic psychologist working with seriously ill criminals at Florida State Hospital. For over 30, years he has been a faculty member of Nova Southeastern University. For the first nine years, he was also the Director of the Master's Programs in Psychology. He then became the founding Director and clinical supervisor for the Student Counseling Services of the university, a position he held for 14 years. In addition to his teaching, supervision, and research obligations, Dr. Schneider is a licensed psychologist in Florida and New York, and maintains a private practice in Hollywood, Florida.
