Professional Interests

Dr. Jeffrey L. Kibler’s research is in cardiovascular behavioral medicine and has focused particularly on behavioral and psychological factors associated with cardiovascular risks in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He also examines other behavioral and psychological markers (e.g., health risk behaviors, stress and cognitive appraisal) for heart disease and other chronic illnesses.

Dr. Kibler's research team recently completed a study funded by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute to comprehensively assess cardiovascular risks and cardiovascular reactivity and recovery patterns (using impedance cardiography) among young women with PTSD. This study also examines whether cognitive appraisals of stress mediate the relationships of PTSD with cardiovascular risk and reactivity/recovery.
