The Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination (CPCE) is required as part of the clinical mental health counseling concentration of the master's in counseling degree program. An application must be submitted in order for the Program Office to confirm you are eligible to take the CPCE. Applications must be submitted when you are enrolled in PYCL 0680 Counseling Practicum or no later than the first day of the term. Please be mindful of the application deadline as when you graduate could potentially be delayed. Any student who has not applied prior to the deadline date must plan to apply by the first day of the following term. The Academic Calendar is posted in Canvas via the Department of Counseling Student Center. Payment is not required until STEP 3 of the process.

REGISTRATION
STEP 2: After the close of the NSU application period, a Center for Credentialing and Education
(CCE) registration link will be sent to each student’s NSU email account within approximately
two weeks.
STEP 3: Within 7 business days of completing STEP 2 (Registering with CCE via the
link provided), students will receive an email from Pearson VUE instructing them to
complete STEP 3 Registering with Pearson VUE. During STEP 3, students will create
a Pearson VUE account, schedule and pay for the exam.
In order to create an account, students will be prompted to select a Pearson VUE facility
nearest them and schedule their examination for an available testing time slot at
the selected facility. Payment by credit/debit card will be required at this time. Students are allowed a maximum of three attempts within a six-month period to take
the exam. Additional attempts require students to contact their respective Program
Coordinator to discuss their status.
FEES: The cost to take the CPCE - Computer-Based Test at a Pearson VUE Facility is $150, to be paid to Pearson VUE, and is non-refundable.
RESULTS: The Department of Counseling faculty will review the passing score prior to the start of each academic year. Refer to the CPCE FAQ file in the Department of Counseling Student Center in Canvas for the current passing score.
Official scores for students who complete the exam between the first and the last day of the month are received by the program office by approximately the middle of the following month. Formal correspondence from the program office concerning pass/fail status will be emailed to your NSU Email Account. Students can also login to their Pearson account from any computer to view/print their scores after the exam. The delay of students completing the exam at a Pearson VUE facility until the latter part of the term, may also delay degree conferral.
STUDY AIDS: There is no official study guide for the CPCE. However, the CPCE is modeled after the National Counseling Exam (NCE). A list of recommended resources is available via the following link: https://nsufl.libguides.com/c.php?g=383945&p=4015147. In addition, you should review your textbooks and notes from your coursework.
DISABILITY SERVICES: Students requiring disability-related accommodations will need to contact the Student Disabilities Services Office at 954-262-7185 or via email at disabilityservices@nova.edu. They will then inform the Master’s Program Office of the necessary accommodation(s).
