College of Psychology Cardigan Ceremony
To symbolize the start of the academic journey of our master’s students, College of Psychology faculty will be awarding a specially designed cardigan to each student during the orientation session.
The cardigan symbolizes that students will start their training and accept the responsibility of becoming a competent, compassionate, and ethical professional. Additionally, it also serves as a reminder for students to strive for excellence.
For Fort Lauderdale students, the event will be held during the orientation session. For online Counseling and School Psychology students, the ceremony will take place during your on campus residential institute.

HIPAA Requirement (Clinical and School Psychology students) The protection of patient
health information is important to the training and conduct of psychologists. We are
proud to house the NSU Health Psychology Services Center in the Maxwell Maltz Building
where we serve clients from our community. To ensure your access to the clinic area
in Maltz where a number of faculty have their offices, all incoming clinical and school psychology students are required to complete a HIPAA Privacy, Security and Research Training course.
This is a mandatory course, which must be completed PRIOR to the start of the Fall semester, and consists of the following:
- An overview
- Three modules
- Three quizzes
- A confidentiality agreement
Additional Information
- All parts of the course must be completed in order to receive credit for completion. To complete the course, please login to SharkLink and ACCEPT the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) course when you log into Canvas. After completing the course, the certificate will then be available immediately. You should print or save the certificate as a PDF.
- The Student Orientation HIPAA Privacy, Security and Research Training is due 30 days from entry into training and PRIOR to the start of the Fall semester.
- Students, who do not complete the training within the time frame outlined above, will have their names forwarded to the Program Director for appropriate administrative action.
Please keep in mind that this will prepare you early on to be aware of and sensitive to an important issue affecting the welfare of clients. Thank you for your attention.
