Ken Dawson-Scully, Ph.D. joined NSU as Senior Vice-President for Division of Research
and Economic Development (DoR) and Associate Provost at NSU on September 1, 2021.
He is also a professor in the NSU Department of Psychology and Neuroscience.
Previously, he served for three years as the head of institutional partnerships at
the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience with a joint appointment as associate
vice president for STEM partnerships at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Dawson-Scully
has established translational research opportunities throughout his career, and he
has produced several patents and spun-out two companies. He has served as the principal
investigator for one of the first National Science Foundation (NSF) i-Corps grants
in South Florida that helped accelerate more than 50 companies in the region. At FAU,
Dawson-Scully was a tenured professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and
fulfilled leadership positions as director of the Max Plank Honors Program; associate
vice president for Strategic Initiatives; and associate director of the FAU Brain
Institute. Dawson-Scully received his Bachelor of Science (with Honors) and master’s
of science from Queen’s University, a doctoral degree from University of Toronto College
of Medicine and completed a post-doctoral fellowship (heart and stroke) in the Department
of Biology at the University of Toronto.
