Professional Interests

Vanessa Teixeira Ed.D. is an Assistant Professor and serves as a Chapter Faculty Advisor for Chi Sigma Iota’s Nu Sigma chapter in the Department of Counseling. Dr. Teixeira is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida, an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), and a Certified Career Counselor (CCC). She has focused much of her professional career working in the mental health counseling community with children and families from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. Dr. Teixeira specializes in working with children and individuals who have experienced complex trauma, using Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Counseling (TF-CBT). She has also worked closely with Headstart programs in North East Florida to help children, teachers and families better understand the impact of early trauma on classroom behaviors. Dr. Teixeira’s professional areas of interest include LGBT+ issues, peripartum depression, severe mental illness, supervision, gatekeeping, social justice, and professional counselor development. Dr. Teixeira has presented her research interests in several state and national conferences and has also published articles in The Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision, Journal of the Theory of Social Behaviour, and the The SAGE Encyclopedia of Marriage, Family, and Couples Counseling. In addition, she recently authored a book titled Counseling for Peripartum Depression: A Strengths-Based Approach to Conceptualization and Treatment.
