Message from the Chair
On behalf of the faculty and staff of the NSU Department of Counseling, I want to welcome you to our website.
As you start your journey into this profession, please know that our faculty and staff are here to help you. As professional counselors, we believe in a preventative, developmental, and holistic framework. We pay attention to client strengths and assets. We take a nonmedical approach and know that issues are on a continuum from developmental to pathology. We look at the biological, social, emotional, and psychological issues and employ a variety of treatment techniques in individual, group, couples, and family counseling with clients from across myriad settings.
Our faculty are internationally known for their participation in advocacy, research, leadership, clinical work, and wellness. Our program is designed to give you broad-based counseling knowledge that can be applied to numerous counseling settings. You will be able to immerse yourself in areas of interest by working directly with faculty and through our practicum and internship field experience. This last part is often the most exciting time for students as they take their theoretical knowledge and apply it to very real, and often very difficult issues facing people.
