Courses in the School Counseling concentration are offered one at a time in the intensive weekend format on the main campus in Ft. Lauderdale and at all Regional Campuses. Forty-five hours of instruction are required. Each course will take place over two intensive weekends offered within three or four weeks from one another (e.g., one weekend in September and one weekend in October equals one 3-credit-hour course). Courses for a given cluster of students are typically scheduled year round. Each course is offered once for each cluster during the course of their tenure at NSU (averaging between 2.5 and 3 years in the program). Students admitted at a specific Student Education Center must begin the program with the first scheduled course offered for their cluster as course work is sequenced throughout the program. Instructors are accessible to students throughout the length of the course.
Students register and begin course preparation approximately one month prior to the first class meeting. Class meetings (except for Practicum and Internship) are scheduled on Fridays (6:00 p.m. –10:00 p.m.), Saturdays (8:30 a.m. –6:00 p.m.) and Sundays (8:30 a.m. –5:30 p.m.). Practicum and Internship classes are scheduled weekly and/or every-other week over a 15-week semester format.
The concentration is also offered at NSU's Regional Campuses in Orlando and Tampa. NSU has been a leader in training students in this format for over 30 years. BlackBoard technology will be utilized to enhance face-to-face instruction.
