Professional Interests

Adriana Labarta Ph.D. is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC; FL), a national certified counselor (NCC), and an approved clinical supervisor (ACS). Her clinical experience spans a variety of treatment settings, including residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatient, and college counseling. Dr. Labarta's research and clinical interests include eating disorders, body image, self-compassion, and multicultural counseling. She is particularly passionate about bridging research-practice gaps in the eating disorder treatment field to improve treatment accessibility through counselor education and advocacy for underrepresented groups. Dr. Labarta has presented her research at national and state conferences and has published her work in The Professional Counselor, Journal of Mental Health Counseling, Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision, Journal of Creativity in Mental Health, and others.
Dr. Labarta is an active member of several counseling organizations and engages in service to the profession through several roles. She currently serves as an Editorial Board member for the peer-reviewed journals, Teaching and Supervision in Counseling and Counseling Outcome Research and Evaluation. She was previously selected as an Emerging Leader for the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling (2023-2024) and the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (2020-2022). Most recently, Dr. Labarta and her colleague, Dr. Taylor Irvine, were awarded The Professional Counselor's 2024 Outstanding Scholar Award (Concept/Theory category) for their co-authored publication: Enhancing Counselor Trainee Preparedness for Treating Eating Disorders: Recommendations for Counselor Educators.
