Professional Interests

Angela Waguespack, PhD, is a licensed and certified school psychologist, associate professor, and director of the specialist program in the College of Psychology at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). Her research and professional interests focus on efforts to address educational and mental health disparities in ethic and racial minority youth and those living in poverty. Specifically, Dr. Waguespack works to develop, implement, and evaluate multi-tiered systems of support models aimed at addressing academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of children and families in school and community settings.

She is the NSU Program Director of a funded research and service project entitled the Reading Explorers Program (REP), which incorporates a response to intervention approach to prevent summer learning loss in at-risk children from low income, minority homes and neighborhoods. Through collaboration with colleagues at FIU, she has worked with practicum students and staff to provide universal screenings, small-group reading intervention, and parent engagement activities to over 1700 diverse children and families each summer since 2013.
