Education:
Akshay S. Naraine, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at NSU’s College of Psychology. His research focuses on advancing neuropharmacological avenues for drug discovery and toxicology. During his master’s and doctorate, Dr. Naraine revealed evidence that glyphosate, the active component in Roundup, targeted GABA-A receptor signaling in an invertebrate model system. This was the first neuropharmacological target ever proposed for glyphosate.
Dr. Naraine shifted his attention to G-protein coupled receptor pharmacology during his postdoctoral fellowship at the Karolinska Institute, in Sweden. He worked to develop translational projects harmonizing both biological and computational techniques to provide novel therapeutic insights for Parkinson’s Disease. At NSU, Dr. Naraine furthers his work into understanding herbicide neuromodulation and pursues novel therapeutic avenues for neurodegenerative disease.
