Are Nova Southeastern University (NSU) programs accredited?
NSU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award bachelor’s, master’s, educational specialist, and doctoral degrees.
Information regarding program accreditation is located on each program webpage.
If offered admission to a graduate program in psychology, is there a deadline to notify the department of acceptance or decline of the admission offer?
In accordance with the guidelines established by the American Psychological Association and the National Association of School Psychologists, admitted students have until April 15th to respond to the admission offer.
When I accept the admission offer, must I submit a deposit?
Applicants who plan to enroll are required to submit a deposit of US $1,000 by April 15th to secure their place in the program. This nonrefundable fee is credited toward the first semester’s tuition. Applicants may be subject to a background check upon acceptance into the program.
Does the program offer “provisional admissions?”
Students may be provisionally admitted to a degree-seeking program based on a review of unofficial transcripts or other specific program admission requirements. However, this admission includes a condition that final and official documents and requirements must be received within 90 calendar days from the start of the term. If these official and final documents and/or requirements are not received by that time, the student will not be allowed to continue class attendance, financial aid will not be disbursed, and may be assessed a late balance fee charge.
Where should I mail my official transcripts? Is there an email address for official electronic transcripts?
Official transcripts must be sent to:
Nova Southeastern University
Enrollment Processing Services
Attn: College of Psychology
3301 College Avenue P.O. Box 299000
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33329-9905
Official electronic transcripts must be sent to electronictranscript@nova.edu (Note: external institutions only).
What are the differences between the Ph.D. and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology?
The Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology is based on a scientist-practitioner training model. Thus, the program adheres firmly to the principle that psychology is an empirically based discipline. The program prepares students for entry-level practice as health service psychologists who will contribute to and advance the evidence base of the field as well as engage in a wide-range of professional activities relevant to health promotion, prevention, consultation, assessment, and treatment for psychological and other health-related disorders. The program is anchored in the cumulative body of psychological knowledge and provides a firm basis in statistics, research design, and experimental research methodology.
The Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology is founded on the practitioner-informed-by-science model, which prepares students to provide empirically supported or evidence-based assessment and intervention methods, and to evaluate their efficacy. The Psy.D. offers academic, practicum, internship, and research experience directly relevant to the practitioner, while retaining the important scientific base upon which professional competence and knowledge rest. Students are prepared to be lifelong consumers of research. The overarching aim is to prepare students to enter careers as health service psychologists concerned primarily with direct service delivery informed by the research base.
The Ph.D. curriculum is comprised of 118 credits, while the Psy.D. curriculum has 119 credits.
What is the focus of the Psy.D. in School Psychology?
The aim of the Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) program in school psychology is to prepare graduates to serve the educational, behavioral, social, and emotional needs of the individuals, families, and educational personnel they serve. The program focuses on addressing, assessing, and evaluating attainment of the Profession-Wide Competencies (PWC) and Discipline-Specific Knowledge (DSK) as outlined by the Standards of Accreditation (SoA) of the American Psychological Association (APA) through the lens of the practitioner-informed-by-science training model. The curriculum prepares graduates to be eligible for both licensure as a psychologist, as well as certification as a school psychologist to work in a K-12 setting. The Psy.D. curriculum is located HERE.
What is the focus of the Psy.S. in School Psychology?
The specialist program prepares candidates to facilitate the educational, social, and emotional development of children and adolescents in a variety of settings. School psychology candidates learn to work collaboratively with administrators, educators, parents, and students to provide preventive and remedial psychological services. The program integrates theoretical and practical training, which provides candidates with expertise in the following areas: psychological and educational foundations, assessment, prevention and intervention, consultation, research, and professional ethics and standards. Through the application of their knowledge, skills, and techniques, graduates of the specialist program apply the practice of psychology to educational problems. The Psy.S. curriculum is located HERE.

All transfer credits must be awarded during the student’s first academic year in the doctoral program. Additional information is available at https://psychology.nova.edu/students/current-students.html. Please note that transfer credits cannot be awarded for pre-practicum, practicum, internship, or electives.
Can I transfer from one doctoral program to the other doctoral program (Ph.D./Psy.D.)?
It is the policy of the College of Psychology that doctoral students in clinical psychology should select either the Ph.D. or the Psy.D. program before making application for admission. The programs are distinct in focus and it is expected that applicants will enroll with the intention of completing the program into which they are accepted.
Is there a time limit to complete the doctoral program (Ph.D. and/or Psy.D.)?
Students are required to complete their program and be awarded a doctoral degree within seven years from the time of first enrollment.
What will my course load look like? Do I have to be enrolled full-time?
All students must be in full-time residence for a minimum of the first three academic years to be eligible for the doctoral degree. In order to maintain student status in the Psy.D. program, students must be registered continuously.
