Professional Interests

Jessica L. Tinstman Jones, Ph.D., NCC, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling at NSU’s College of Psychology, based at the Fort Lauderdale-Davie campus. Dr. Tinstman Jones is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and holds a specialty certification in Disaster Mental Health Counseling. Her clinical work includes provision of individual, family, and group services in community, school, and hospital settings at the inpatient and outpatient levels. Dr. Tinstman Jones specializes in clinical mental health counseling and supporting clients experiencing crisis and trauma events with an emphasis on clients with suicidal ideations and behaviors.

As a researcher, she continues to focus on crisis intervention training and services and suicide prevention with a focus on Military families and youth mental health. Additional interests include outcomes of youth and adulthood experiences of bullying, teacher and educator training to address mental health with students, and mental health services for Military populations. Dr. Tinstman Jones has presented her research in several state, national, and international conferences, and she has been published in The Journal of Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention, Professional School Counseling, and additional counseling and education-focused journals.
